Waynetown - Bert Alward, 81, retired teacher died at 12 noon Tuesday in Rudisill Nursing Home, Crawfordsville where he had been a patient two weeks. He had been ill two months. Born July 5, 1880 in Jackson Twp, Fountain County, he was a son of Henry and Sally McKinzie Alward. He was married June 18, 1925 to Charlotte Steelsman at Seattle, Washington. Mr. Alward was a Wallace HS graduate. He attended Wabash College and received the BS degree from CumberlandUniversity in Tennessee and a master's from Oglethorpe College, Atlanta GA. Mr. Alward did postgrad work at the University of Washington. He taught at Milligan College in Tennessee. Oglethrope and at New River State College in West Virginia and in high schools in Idaho & Washington. He retired 11 years ago to his farm west of Wallace. Survivors include the wife; a son, Paul Russell Alward of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Isbell of Elkhart; a grandson Paul H. Alward of Greencastle, a brother, Thurman Alward, sister, Miss Icele Alward and sister-in-law, Mrs. Sadie Alward, all of Kingman and several nieces and nephews. Funeral rites are announced for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, Rev. Robert Shakleford will be minister and burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
